In 2007, AFIS expanded nationally to other states and held an official launch in Sydney, Adelaide and Brisbane.

Melbourne `Waratah’ Clinic

‘Melbourne `Waratah’ Clinic’ in partnership with Natural Medicine Students Union (NMSU) C.O.R.E. project.  The clinic is a low cost holistic support service exclusively dedicated to the health needs of international students.  The clinic offers Naturopathy, Herbal medicine, Nutritional Medicine, Dietary advice, Holistic Lifestyle advice and Iridology.  The project involved many natural medicine professionals who helped by lowering their consultation fees for international students. 

Cultural events

A number of cultural events were organised for international students, including a trip to the Turkish Tulip Festival, and dinner with the North East Melbourne Chinese Association to celebrate Mid Autumn Festival.

Official Launch - AFIS New South Wales

The executive committee of AFIS-NSW group established immediate working relationships with vital stakeholders in the affairs of international students. Representatives from numerous government officials, education providers, and student clubs and societies, who saw AFIS-NSW as a potential strategic partner in enriching the lives of their current members and were impressed by the initiative that AFIS was undertaking.

Official Launch - AFIS South Australia

The launch of AFIS in South Australia was held in September 2007. Governmental, tertiary sector, and allied education sector workers attended the function as did a number of Adelaide student representatives and sporting club leaders.

Official Launch - AFIS Queensland

The Launch for AFIS Queensland was held in October 2007 and included representatives for Queensland universities, industry bodies and student leaders as well as international students keen to see what AFIS was about.  The evening provided an opportunity for stakeholders to become reinvigorated in addressing international student issues through AFIS’ launch in Queensland.

Moonlight Cinema

AFIS arranged for a group of over 30 international students to visit Melbourne’s renowned Moonlight Cinema at the Royal Botanical Gardens. The students thoroughly enjoyed this unique social and cultural experience.

Christmas Party 

AFIS South Australia conducted a Christmas Event for its members to allow these students to experience a Christmas event which is very common and important in many local workplaces.

Japanese Cultural Experience

With the aim of enriching the social and cultural experience of its members, AFIS NSW conducted a cultural event featuring the tastes, sights and sounds of Japan. As the first AFIS NSW social and cultural event, it proved very successful.
